Bio Tech Campus, Chengdu
Situated north of a central park, the benefits from this green environment are maximized. First of all by creating an open and permeable green central zone which allows the other plots to be (visually) connected to the park. R&D development is clustered in smaller self-supporting business communities with a wide range of building typologies and sizes. The shared facilities are organized centrally to stimulate knowledge exchange, forming of strategic alliances and birth of innovations. In this ‘open innovation’ campus, the central boulevard accommodates a diverse and animated pedestrian space and car traffic is minimized. The majority of parking will be arranged underground with entry and exit at the borders of the site. The high green ratio is the base for a healthy green working environment and offers possibilities to integrate Sponge principles such as storm- and grey water catchment, buffering and filtering. infiltration and natural d isposal of superfluous water to the central lake through smart landscape de sign. The architecture is inspired by famous Chengdu brocade weaving techniques which will be applied in a contemporary abstraction in the facade louvres.
