Zevenaar City Hall
The two impressive and iconic buildings that used to belong to the British American Tobacco company were transformed into a lively and future-oriented city hall for Zevenaar. The oldest part of the factory complex, the Turmac building from the 1920s, was refitted as a municipal office. The public counters were relocated in the former Production Hall 12. The renovated middle section between both buildings connects the form of Hall 12 and the Turmac building in a modern architectural style, which opens onto a plaza and creates a spatial connection between the various parts of the building.
In spite of the transformation, the Turmac building has remained a Zevenaar icon and continues to be a reminder of the era when the BAT cigarette factory was located here.
