The Nederlandsche Bank in Amsterdam
The former computing centre of the Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), located on Sarphatistraat in Amsterdam, was transformed into a transparent visitors centre and a warm and homey ‘action office’. Visitors to the open visitors centre get a peek into the tasks and responsibilities of DNB. A noticeable eye catcher is the film hall with an appearance of large piles of gold bars. The office floors above are arranged for work activities. Large new voids with trees connect the various floors.
The playful and dynamic rhythm of the transparent new façade matches the size and scale of the adjacent housing. The bronze-anodized sections reflect light / sunlight in such a manner that the façade image changes continuously when passing it. Having obtained an A++ energy label, the building is nearly energy-neutral.
