Solids I, Amsterdam IJburg
Designed by Baumschlager-Eberle of Austria, Solid 1 with its arcades on the ground floor is a building leaning towards the classical in appearance. A façade of natural stone is fixed to the precast concrete structure, which only lends emphasis to its sustainable nature. The structure is a durable shell structure with no predetermined purpose, constructed in accordance with Stadgenoot housing associations Solid concept. Upon completion, the space was auctioned off, with the users free to use the space as they see fit.
The tenants bid for the number of square meters they require, decide the layout and the function which in turn determines the rental price charged.
