Science Campus, Leiden University
The new Science Campus accommodates several institutes arranged in a clear comb structure, but presented as a single building. A central axis accommodates all the specific and shared services and functions as an inspiring and expressive environment where the various users meet each other. The wings on both sides of the axis are designed generically and can be flexibly turned into offices, research rooms and high-quality chemistry and biochemical labs.
The faculty building was jointly designed by Inbo and JHK architects. The architecture of the building reflects the identity of its users. For example, the pattern of the façade is based on a longitudinal wave. In the interior, the Wall of Fame connects the past and the future using portraits of famous Leiden scientists and academians.
The Science Campus is the first laboratory building with a BREEAM-NL Very Good certificate.
