The changes in healthcare, a government that is taking a more distant approach and the separation of housing and healthcare have stimulated many people to make their own arrangements in preparation for old age. People want to remain in control of their life and are looking for a place to lead a pleasant and safe life, with care within reach just around the corner.
Peter Prak and Eerde Schippers stood at the cradle of the Knarrenhof. A concept that originates from cocreation with a social and sustainable approach. The first Knarrenhof was realised in Zwolle. Surrounding two shared courtyards with both rentals and privately owned homes, space is available for larger and smaller ground-floor houses. The shared living room is given shape by the residents, and a central place for activities and meeting is available as well. The key aspects of the Knarrenhofs are independent living, self-sustainability, neighbourship and privacy.
