Kamp Amersfoort, Leusden
The reception area in Kamp Amersfoort (former concentration camp) exudes authenticity. The building is almost at one with the surrounding landscape, however for all its simplicity it still makes a clear architectural statement. The material used is bold and honest: concrete, glass and rusted steel plates. Any conscious reference to people has been omitted here, leaving the visitor alone with his or her thoughts and to draw the focus of attention towards what is important: the sites history. Because of the fact that the number of visitors is higher than expected, we are now working on an expansion which will connect the building and the landscape even better.
