Cultural Centre, Woudenberg
An existing, closed, bank building in the centre of Woudenberg was transformed into an open cultural centre. The façade was retained to a large extent. A billboard on the façade announces the activities and welcomes visitors. In the interior, a new empty space, spanning the entire building’s height, allows daylight to penetrate deep into the structure, which achieves a type of transparent look. The surrounding floor spaces can be divided in a flexible manner for the various types of uses.
The new users have been closely involved in the design process. The users are the public library, VVV (Tourist Information Office), a music school, the foundation Stichting Oud-Woudenberg and the art & culture association. The basic concept of the Cultural Centre is the community, both in theme and programming, as well as in the use of space. With its lively look and its diversity of social and cultural activities, the Cultural Centre has become the social beacon of the town.
