Coolhaven, Rotterdam
A new living and working area is rising on the Coolhaven in the style of New York’s Greenwich Village. The rugged, urban vibe and a relaxed and green atmosphere form an amazing combination.
Over 320 lofts and apartments spread over 15 buildings fit like a puzzle and were built on top of a car park. Car traffic has been driven out of the neighbourhood. In the small side streets, which are sometimes just four and a half metres wide, one can really feel the intimate urban feeling.
The apartments and their huge glass façades either look over the Coolhaven or a pleasant square. The Inbo and CULD design team was complemented by artist Ruud Jan Kokke, who made the drawing for the balcony railings and the skyways between the buildings.
