Winning homes are popular

The five teams who won the architecture competition ‘A Home away from Home’ are presenting their prototypes for homes for statusholders and home seekers during the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. Two of the prototypes can be seen at the Klokgebouw on Strijp-S, the other three are being shown at Stadhuisplein. Besides that three honorable mentions are showing their models. The national and international media, as well as municipalities and corporations, show a lot of interest. The City Council of Leiden said in an article in Dutch newspaper NRC that they have ordered 150 ‘evolutionary wooden buildings’ of the winning team Jurrian Knijtijzer/Finch Building.

Rutger Oolbekkink and Maaike Stoop, advisors at Inbo, is the project leader of the competition and prototyping process, commissioned by COA and Rijksbouwmeester. Rutger also has prepared the event ‘From prototype to practice’ in collaboration with Platform Opnieuw Thuis. During this event, on October 26 on the Dutch Design Week, corporations, city councils, designers, creative hackers and refugees speak about how they would organize housing solutions for statusholders and other home seekers.

The prototypes can be seen until the 30th of October on the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. For more information about the prototypes and competition please visit www.ahomeawayfromhome.nl.
