Gulden Feniks nomination Tandheelkunde

The completely renovated and extended building for Dentistry of the Radboud University Nijmegen received a nomination for the NRP Gulden Feniks Prize in the category Renovation. The renowned jury chose our design as one of the four contenders for the prize which promotes and inspires to reuse the existing built environment. The other nominees in the category Renovation are Alliantie HQ (Hilversum), Flat met Toekomst, NOM (Utrecht) and Het Breed (Amsterdam).

The key concepts of the project was to create an environment of cross pollinations and meeting.

Besides education, research and training in the dentistry building, patients can also be treated. This combination asked for a high-level renovation design, in which the flows of patients, students and employees are organized in a clear way. The special construction of the higher part of the existing building has a clear floor plan and high floor height which provides good points of connection for a sustainable step into energy saving, comfort enhancement, flexible use and a contemporary look. The concrete has been made visible, resulting in a beautiful combination of rough concrete and smooth, precise additives. The biggest part of the existing low-rise building has been demolished to make room for a clear clinic area with new central atrium, where students, researchers and patients can meet each other in an informal atmosphere.

The NRP Gouden Feniks prizes are awarded annually in the categories: Area Transformation, Transformation, Renovation and Low Budget High Impact. On Wednesday the 5th of July all winners will be announced and the prizes will be awarded.
