May 2016 - New reality

What do you do in 2020?

New techniques overwhelm us. Buying a new house nowadays is done by use of virtual reality glasses. Trendy gamers develop stunning clips that allow us to walk through our projects as if they were already there. 3D components are printed and stacked by drones. Data are the bricks of the future.

These beautiful technological developments go along with a new generation. A generation that communicates digitally more than face-to-face. That  deliberately chooses to take responsibility and is less attached to possession. A generation that sees the potential of the sharing economy, the benefits of working together and the power of the online world.

What does that mean for our profession? What does it mean for you? How do we use these trends to make our job more enjoyable and our buildings even better? Or are these trends ‘just’ an appealing outcome of the crisis and do we secretly attach to an old, familiar and stable spatial environment?

Interesting questions to philosophize about together. With a glass in one hand and a smartphone in the other. For philosophizing about the world of tomorrow is of course done digital anno 2016.
