Creating a center together

For fifteen years Emmeloord has been speaking about the future of the city’s center. Numerous plans have passed the review, but none of the ideas has resulted in concrete plans. Guido Wallagh and Jeroen Oomens therefore opted for a different approach. In an open planning process “A Heart for Emmeloord” together with local residents and entrepreneurs they put together three scenarios. Between February 27th and March 7th the residents, entrepreneurs and visitors of the city’s center could vote for one of three scenarios. With over 1,900 votes cast, the need and the results were clear. 60% of all voters chose a compact city center which is varied, cozy and has its own identity, to combine the energy in the center into a compact and powerful shopping area.

Between June 2015 and March 2016 Jeroen and Guido organized seven public meetings in which they, and along with more than 1,200 visitors, worked on three consistent scenarios for the city center. Proposals that do justice to the ideas that live in the region, but also connect with specific proposals from investors and entrepreneurs. The well-attended meetings and a project advisory board who selflessly worked on it for six months are the proof of the great commitment that is organized with the ‘A Heart for Emmeloord’.
