Agreement for Huis van de Stad Rijswijk
The Town Home in Rijswijk will become reality. In December our final design for the sustainable transformation of the monumental old town hall has been approved with great enthusiasm by the city council. Also the credit for phase 1 was determined. A music school, a library, welfare facilities and hospitality services will be the first users in two years' time. The municipal organization will reside later. With this, the building on the Generaal Spoorlaan will have a future again after 15 years of vacancy.
Jeroen Simons, architect-partner at Inbo, made a design that turns the courtyard into an atrium. This becomes the heart of the building, the meeting space that connects all activities. The building gains in transparency and openness, so that existing qualities such as the monumental hall, corridors and stairwells become more visible. The stone facades are repaired, cleaned, insulated on the inside and equipped with new slim frames. In combination with the complete renovation of the installations and an energy-supplying roof, it will become a nearly Zero Energy Building. Inbo followed the way of thinking of Sustainable Opportunity for Existing Real Estate, a working method for maximum sustainability within budget constraints.
