January 2017 - Social Impact

Honorable mention for SPACE-S

SPACE-S in Eindhoven received an honorable mention at the European Responsible Housing Awards 2016 last November 23 in Brussels. Our client Woonbedrijf was nominated in the category of Local Social Sustainability with this special co-creation project. On a scale as never been seen before in the social rented housing sector, the future residents of SPACE-S were involved in the process from the very start by thinking along and talking about their wishes and dreams for their own neighbourhood in the dynamic district of Strijp-S.

Aron Bogers (architect-partner at Inbo) is very proud: "Because of the interactive design process the residents of SPACE-S already know each other from the moment they are going to live there. It is great that the social impact of this approach is recognized on European level. And a deserved appreciation for Angelique Bellemakers, district manager at Woonbedrijf, who has put lots of effort from the beginning to get this unique collaboration project together."

The European Responsible Housing Award is a European prize for housing corporations and other organizations in the social rented housing sector who are committed to responsible housing. As the organization says: "Ensuring affordable and good quality housing and services that meet the different needs of tenants. And contributing to sustainable local communities, to the wellbeing of the tenants, the quality of their lives and to their self-reliance."

SPACE-S has about 400 houses in 7 buildings, which are built all together at the same time by contractor Stam + De Koning. Due to the intensive involvement of residents almost no home will be the same. The first residents moved in last November and December into the first blocks. All units will be occupied in the spring of 2017.
