The ‘School Building Atlas’ offers help

In the following years hundreds of primary school buildings in The Netherlands need to be renovated. The need is great, since the visions and needs constantly change and maintenance is neglected on a large scale. To most school directors, team members and school boards this is a complicated task. The ‘School Building Atlas’ offers help in the renovation of primary schools and child centres. This manual gives an overview of contemporary renovation projects and shows one hundred inspiring examples of renovation projects in The Netherlands, concluding that renovation is a clever alternative for new construction.

Furthermore the School Construction Atlas contains essays on contemporary issues such as ‘The school and the neighbourhood’ by Guido Wallagh, partner at Inbo. In this essay the interaction between education and urban renewal is described. An interaction that seems to be self-evident, but in real life takes place insufficiently. Why this is happening and foremost how this interaction can still be successful, is discussed in this essay.
