April 2017 - Living together

Customer-oriented care concept

FAME, Veluwezoom Verkerk and Inbo worked for Zorggroep Zuid Gelderland (ZZG) and housing association Talis together on the design and construction of a unique customer-focused care concept, conceived from the well-being of the residents. Starting point of the design was that dementing people should not have the feeling of living at a nursing home in this new building, but instead they should be living independently as much as possible.

Therefore individual care apartments have been realized in the building, with in between them communal rooms: areas where residents can meet each other in the way they want. Therewith the building has become a small neighbourhood on itself. And because the common areas are spread in between the individual care apartments, there is no endless long hallway with rooms on either side.

An important additional wish of ZZG was to ensure the real estate value for the future. Therefore the layout of the building makes it possible to rebuild the care apartments of 50m² into regular three-room apartments of 70m², within the existing shell. When converting into regular apartments, the common areas are joined to the care apartments without the facade being rebuilt. The casco has been prepared for this adaptation both architecturally and technically.

FAME Group led the construction management for ZZG and Talis. They organized the Design & Build tender that we won together with contractor Veluwezoom Verkerk.

Jacques Prins, architect-partner at Inbo, is proud of this project because the concept was so quickly approved by all the parties involved and was also built very fast. "That doesn’t happen too often," says Jacques. "In addition, apart from some minor details the building was built exactly as we have designed it. The shows in the end result; I just submitted it for the brick awards."
