Sneak preview city hall Zevenaar
The renovation of the former BAT cigarette factory into a fresh and future-oriented city hall is almost finished. A second and new life for two impressive iconic buildings. The oldest part of the factory complex, the 1920’s Turmac building, is now being transformed into a municipal office with different activity orientated working places. New public counters were opened earlier in the alongside situated old production Hall 12. Both buildings are of historic significance to the city of Zevenaar.
To connect the two buildings in a self-explanatory manner the part of the Turmac building adjacent to the hall is partially renewed and given a new façade. This new façade opens the building towards the square and architecturally connects the Hall 12 and the Turmac building in a contemporary way. By spatially connecting levels with stairs and voids, employees will experience the building to the fullest.
The completion will take place at the end of this year. From January 2016 on the city hall of Zevenaar will be fully functioning in the former headquarters of cigarette company British American Tobacco.
