First part Maanplein completed
Binckhorst will become a vibrant residential area
At the Maanplein in The Hague we are working on the redevelopment of the former KPN office complex into a lively living and working environment. This is part of the ambitions of the municipality of The Hague to transform the Binckhorst business park. The combination of living and working will ensure that there is not only activity during daytime but also during the rest of the day. The execution of the new Maanplein master plan makes the Binckhorst a lively area again.
Inbo and TconcepT got the assignment to make the master plan for the entire site and to design and engineer the transformation. Up on to this moment, six offices have already been transformed into apartment complexes. The houses have been made visible by adding balconies and terraces on the ground floor. The former expedition building of KPN has been transformed into a start-up hub where startups and scale-ups can work and meet each other. In this way the Maanplein becomes a mixed area.
The redevelopment of the Maanplein is halfway, the apartment buildings are almost all completed and inhabited. There will also be a glass pavilion in the middle of the square where, for example, a restaurant and an auditorium can be housed. On a plot on the corner comes social housing and we started with the design of a residential tower on the inner harbor. In five years' time, the office complex will be transformed into an attractive part of the city where people live, work and recreate.
