Pavilion of 25.500 m²

A large building with a human scale

In the summer of 2015 Inbo won the selection of the design for the new building of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. In the meanwhile, we are working on the final design with our Total Engineering partners Croes and Deerns.

Special about at the faculty is the multitude of different research and educational fields, such as sociology, psychology and artificial intelligence. Therefore interviews with the users of the building are an important part of the design process. With the information from these conversations, we are able to create a design that that justifies the differences between users, yet is very flexible.

The ambition is to make an energy-neutral building. ‘The building follows the people’ is therefore an important principle: for example only in places where people are, the ventilation and lighting work. A large amount of solar panels also helps in achieving this ambition. Moreover, the building of Social Sciences will be BREEAM Excellent certified.

The new faculty is big, but because of its pavilion-like structure looks light and low, well fit into the surrounding park-like campus designed by landscape architect Poelmans Reesink, that will soon be realized.
